Elon Musk's Not-a-Boring Competition 2023
Since 2005 iMAR is a leader of most accurate drill head navigation tools for horizontal directional drilling (HDD).
iMAR is proud to significantly support the Boring Team of the TU Munich to win also the next Not-a-Boring Competition 2023, after they won already the last competition. Further significant support to the TUM Boring Team is given by Herrenknecht and Bauer.
The team of the Technical University of München / Germany describes the project as follows:
Driven by the desire to push today’s status quo of the tunnel boring technology, Elon Musk and his tunnel boring company “The Boring Company” announced the Not-a-Boring Competition in July 2020, challenging students from around the world to design and build a tunnel boring machine, that would bore tunnels faster than a snail could crawl. Elon Musk already hosted four SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competitions in California, all of which students from TUM won. In order to compare the machines, the teams then raced their tunnel machines at the competition finals in Las Vegas in September 2021.
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to the future of mobility. We see tunnels as a technology destined for disruption and want to shape the future of tunneling with innovative concepts. We aim to build the world’s fastest tunnel boring machine (TBM) and are the winners of Elon Musk’s Not-a-Boring Competition 2021, where we competed together with the Technical University of Munich. Our initiative has been featured in many different newspapers and on various podcasts. Currently, TUM Boring team is in preparation for the Not-a-Boring Competition 2023 to secure our win!
At April 4th, 2023 it had been announced that the TUM Boring Team has won the competition the second time.
